Shakeology. Is it worth it? Is there anything else out there I can use instead of it? These are the 2 most common questions I get about this product. Let me just give you my straight up analysis and recommendations regarding Shakeology.
First, I must say that I LOVE this product. I started using it at the start of month 2 of my first round of P90X and I haven’t missed a day since! I really like it that much! Not really for the taste, although it does taste good with some peanut butter, a banana, ice, and water all blended together. The main reason I like it is that with the diet I am on, which restricts many of the foods I eat, I KNOW that once per day I am giving my body all the vast array of nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and probiotics that will keep it running at full speed. This is important for my peace of mind, and especially when I was in round 1, only eating 2,000 calories per day. I didn’t want to deprive my body of things it really needed while I kept my calorie count low.
As for whether or not I recommend it for YOU, that depends. First, it depends on your budget. If you can afford this product in your “supplement” budget, then definitely go for it! If I could only take one of my many supplements, this would be it, hands down. If you weigh the costs of this vs. what you currently eat at breakfast or lunch, and want to use this as a meal replacement, then go for it! However, if it’s just too expensive for your budget at this time, then don’t feel pressured to get it. I’m not looking to make a commission by talking you into buying something you can’t afford. Really. I’m just telling you that I’m a big believer in it, I use it daily, and I will continue to do so.
So if you are considering Shakeology, here’s my recommendation: wait until month 2 to start. That’s what I did. Why? Well, during month 1 you are making so many changes with diet / nutrition / exercise that it will be very hard to determine the effects of Shakeology on your body. You won’t know how it’s affecting your energy, focus, weight, body fat, etc. However, if you let yourself get used to the workout and nutrition routine during month 1, then start Shakeology for month 2, you will really get to see how it benefits you and if those benefits are worth the cost. I want each of you to be able to judge for yourself. If you are dying to start using it from the start, then go for it! I am just saying that if you are on the fence, the easiest way to see what it really does for you is to start it after you are in the routine.
Finally, as far as recipes, I have a section under my Barry’s Tips for our favorite recipes. This comes from my kids trying all the “cool” sounding recipes they find on me so I have tried a lot of different and weird combinations. I also like to add some Whey protein (one scoop) and fiber (two scoops) to all my recipes.
